UNICEF with Kinopark's support hosts film festival Invisible Children in Astana on 1-5 June 2011

ASTANA. June 2. KAZINFORM The 1st of June is the International children's day. A day to remind us that all children have the right to develop their potential - all children, in all situations, all of the time, everywhere. However, millions of children worldwide are subjected to daily abuse, violence, exploitation or discrimination... And too often, no one sees them, as if they were invisible.

UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is organizing in Astana a special event dedicated to "Invisible children". You are invited to attend a film festival in Kinopark 8, Sary-Arka Trade Centre, from 1 to 5 June, 19:00 to 21:00. The film festival will display artistic movies from world-known Directors, including Emir Kusturica, Valeria Gai Germanika, Erkin Rakishev, inspired by the real lives of children who shall no longer remain invisible, the press service of the UNICEF in Kazakhstan.

The movie follows three teenage girls from the Moscow's suburbs, Katya, Vika and Zhanna, all breathless with anticipation when they learn on Monday that there will be a school disco the following Saturday. But as Katya insults one of her teachers, the disco event may be cancelled. The film, which portrays young adolescents rebelling against their parents, teachers, and even against each other, received several international awards, including two prizes at the Cannes International Film Festival 2008.

Yarik is six years old when he arrives in Moscow accompanied by his mother who is looking for Yarik's biological father. While they do not find him, they are soon without money. The mother goes inside a cafeteria to get some food, and never comes back to Yarik. The young abandoned child will desperately look for his parents in the big city.

Sunday 5 June, 19:00-21:00, The Children of Heaven, by Majid Majidi (Iran)

This delightful Iranian movie follows the relationship between an impoverished brother and sister, Ali and Zahra, who are thrust into a difficult circumstance. They choose to solve their problem themselves, without telling their parents, in their own unique way. What follows is a tender, moving tale of compassion, determination and deep family love.
