UNICEF, Kazakh Majilis and EU held joint int'l child protection conference
List of participants included heads of state bodies of Kazakhstan, UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan, specialists of Ombudsman's Office, and representatives of the European Union, diplomatic missions of the EU Member States and other countries, non-governmental and youth organizations.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss the main reform directions and challenges and shape further strategic steps - effective and economically sound solutions to the protection of disadvantaged children, the press service of the UNICEF in Kazakhstan reports.
The participants measured the progress of the child protection reform in Kazakhstan over the last five years with due respect for refinements in special social services; shared experience on effective development of the child protection system, social assistance and social services: how to make social service accessible for those who do not receive but need them, especially the children at risk, subject to abuse, trafficking, illicit transfer and exploitation, gave concrete examples and discussed new directions for juvenile justice development in Kazakhstan; achieved consensus over interagency solutions and strategic directions which should be incorporated into the Reforms during the next five years.
The parties considered different issues related to system reform in the area of child protection, juvenile justice and protection of children against illicit transfer and trafficking.
