Ukrainian astronomers create Europe's largest stars catalog

KIEV. April 14. KAZINFORM Scientists from Kharkiv National University Karazin (Eastern Ukraine) created Europe's largest catalog of the stars. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

"It describes 300 million space objects, is the second largest star directory in the world," one of the founders of the directory said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Thursday.

"It was created by a unique technology that eliminates clerical errors. That is one of the finest folders in the mankind history," said astronomer Vladimir Akhmetov.

Three men had been working over the registry for five years. The first catalog appeared in 2009. There were some inaccuracies. Now the document is fully corrected. The catalogs was formed on the statements that an artificial earth satellite had given. To develop the instrument astronomers uses special programs.

"This directory is unique because for its preparation we used a specially written computer programs. In addition, we were constantly leading telescopic observations from Earth," said Akhmetov.
