ALMATY. May 9. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ "Kazakhstan made a great contribution to the victory in the World War II, above 1mln 800 thousand of Kazakhstanis took part in it. Half of them never returned home. This day we pay tribute to the veterans and the fallen for freedom and independence of our country," President Nursultan Nazarbayev said after the flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial of Glory in the Park of 28 Panfilov Heroes and a minute of silence in memory of the fallen in the WWII.

The Head of State stressed he has arrived in Almaty city to congratulate the war veterans and war workers on the 66th victory in the Great Patriotic War. "We should never forget the deed of your generation for the victory sets the pattern of unity, brotherhood, heroism and love of country," the President noted.

Nursultan Nazarbayev greeted the veterans and took part in the celebratory concert.
