TEHRAN. July 3. KAZINFORM Iran's Ambassador to Kazakhstan Ghorban Seifi said on Saturday that the two countries' presidents are seriously determined to promote cooperation in the political and economic fields.

Iran and Kazakhstan are the two main and influential countries in the region, he said, noting the given their numerous commonalities, the ground is prepared for further developing economic cooperation, IRNA reported.

"The 12th Joint Economic Commission, Sixth Consular Commission and Fourth Working Group will be held this year by the two countries' commerce ministries," he said.

Seifi said that the two states' economic ties are excellent and that Iran-Kazakh trade stood at $1.5 billion.

He hoped that the level of trade will rise.

Referring to oil and gas as among the main areas of cooperation, he said the two countries can have effective cooperation in these fields.

The ambassador said that Kazakhstan is ready to make its agricultural lands available to the Iranian private sector.

Currently, Iran's private sector has rented 25,000 to 35,000 hectares of Kazakh lands to cultivate various agricultural products, he said.

He said that Iran and Kazakhstan's chambers of commerce set up joint economic council last year.

Pointing to five-way corridor of Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Oman, he said that it is in the interest of Kazakhstan to be a member of the corridor.

The ambassador said that Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have undertaken a trilateral project to construct a railway linking the three countries.
