Speaker Mami: Main challenge to security in OSCE area is a crisis of confidence among the states

ASTANA. June 30. KAZINFORM - Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami spoke at the plenary session of the 22nd annual session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which is being held in Istanbul, reports the press service of the Senate.

Parliamentary delegations of OSCE participating States are debating these days topical issues concerning security, human rights and development in Eurasia and the Euro-Atlantic area.

The main theme of the annual session was the initiative of "Helsinki 40", which is aimed at achieving the objectives of strengthening the OSCE's 40-year anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act in 2015.

In this regard, the chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan said that after almost 40 years of the Helsinki Final Act had not lost its relevance and continues to have a positive impact on the world and regional politics. According to Kazakhstan, the main trend of "Helsinki 40" should be work on putting into practice the Astana OSCE Summit Declaration of 2010 by the construction of the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian community of common and indivisible security. K.Mami focused on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan to create a platform on which various regional organizations can work together and to address concurrently security in Eurasia.

Transnational threats emanating from Afghanistan, good governance, the fight against corruption, the management of migration, transport, the efficient use of water resources and environmental security should remain in the field of special attention of OSCE, the speaker said. In the context of the second dimension of the OSCE K.Mami focused on Kazakhstan initiated partnership program named "Green Bridge" oriented to mutual activity of the countries of Europe, Asia and the Pacific region to achieve sustainable and successful development.

The Speaker of the Senate also called for the need to work out common standards and methodologies to monitor the election, which would ensure the objectivity of observation missions.

Summing up the work, K.Mami noted that the main challenge to security in the OSCE area is a crisis of confidence between the countries of the region. Strengthening political will and trust should be a common mission, he said.

In the framework of the OSCE PA session in Istanbul, chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan held two-way meetings with the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Zhemilem Chechek, Chairman of the Parliament of Montenegro Ranko Krivokapic and the OSCE PA Special Representative for Central Asia and the deputy of the National Assembly of France Thierry Mariani. The talks focused on issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including collaboration within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Kazakh parliamentarians continue to work at the Istanbul OSCE PA session, which will last until July 3 this year The delegation includes Senators Ikram Adyrbekov, Rashid Akhmetov, Adil Akhmetov and the majilispeople - Maulen Ashimbayev, Kuanish Sultanov and Svetlana Bychkova.
