Some regions eye increased infant mortality, Kazakh Ministry

ASTANA. September 7. KAZINFORM Kazakh Healthcare Minister Salidat Kairbekova chaired a regular meeting of the republican headquarters on urgent measures to reduce maternal and infant mortality and deaths from cardiovascular diseases.

The meeting enjoyed the participation of heads of healthcare department of the regions, territorial departments of committees and republican healthcare organizations focused on infant mortality the countrywide and implementation of international standards.

For the past 5 years the country's infant mortality decreased by 1.4 times. For the first six months of 2012 infant deaths reduced by 5%, though Kyzylorda, Kostanay, Atyrau and Almaty regions observe rise in infant mortality rates.

The Minister drew attention of local executive authorities to enhance training and retraining of neonatologists, nurses to take care of newborn babies.
