The Semipalatinsk Regional Local History Museum, one of the oldest museums in Kazakhstan, was established in 1883. Great Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev, philosopher and writer Shakarim Kudaiberdiyev and writer Mukhtar Auezov personally contributed to the activity of the museum.

In 1931, the first issue of Industrial Karaganda newspaper saw the light in 1931. In 2016, the newspaper celebrated its 85th birthday.

The Space Research Agency and the State Committee for Land Issues and Land Development was set up in accordance with the decrees of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1991.

In 1993, Tengiz district of Atyrau region was renamed into Kurmangazinsk district.

The Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established under the Ministry of Defense in 1997.

In 2007, the first Kazakh expedition kicked off its around-the-world sea expedition. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the farewell ceremony.

The first issue of Tugan til (Native language) anthology was presented in 2007. It was supposed to give Kazakh compatriots abroad an insight into historical, cultural and spiritual development of modern-day Kazakhstan. The magazine is published in the Arab and Kazakh languages.

In 2007, a monument to workers of the Yertis ormany natural reserve who died while putting out the fire was unveiled in the center of Shaldai village of Pavlodar region.

In 2013, a group of Kazakhstani scientists brought archive documents from China containing information about the Kazakh history. The documents tell the history of the Kazakh-Chinese political and economic relations in 1730-1911.

Soyuz TMA-12M landed safely 148 km southeast of Zhezkazgan city in 2014. It brought back to Earth members of Expedition 39/40, namely Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev and NASA astronaut Steven Swanson who spent 170 days in space.
