Senate chairman Tokayev holds meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - During a working visit to Amman chairman of the Senate Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev has met with Jordan's King Abdullah II, the press service of the upper house of the Parliament informs.

Senate Speaker conveyed Abdullah II gave warm greetings from the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. "The president of our country appreciates your activities aimed at improving the international situation as well as reforming social and political life and the economy of the Kingdom," said Tokayev.

Senate's Speaker emphasized that Kazakhstan shares the position of Jordan to liaise world religions and denominations, as reflected in the "Amman Message" which states that Islam is a peaceful religion and emphasizes the importance of dialogue between representatives of different religions. "These ideas are close to Kazakhstan. In our view, Islam, as well as other religions, has great potential for adoption in the international community of the principles of peace, security and mutual cooperation," said Tokayev.

Head of Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions handed over Abdullah II the invitation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to take part in the V Congress which will take place on June 10-11 this year in Astana.

Tokayev informed Abdullah II on the political situation in Kazakhstan, realization of the President's address "Nurly Zhol - The path to the future", and talked about the election campaign.

Jordan's King wished success to the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, stressing that treats him with great respect. King Abdullah II is impressed with the dynamic development of Kazakhstan. It is important that the positions of Astana and Amman coincide in most international and regional issues.

During the visit Mr. Tokayev also met with Abd al-Rauf al-Rauabde, the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom.
