Russia and Kazakhstan ink nuclear energy cooperation memo

ASTANA. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan and Russia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants in the territory of Kazakhstan.

Kazatomprom JSC CEO Vladimir Shkolnik and head of Rosatom Sergey Kirienko became the signatories to the memo. The project provides for the construction of VVER nuclear power plants with capacity of 300-1200 MW. Besides, the parties signed the roadmap to regulate subsoil use on Kharasan 1, Akdala and Yuzhnyi Inkai in Kazakhstan. Kazatomprom and Rosatom signed a package programme for the development of Kazakh-Russian cooperation in the field of peaceful atom and agreed on cooperation in the area of alternative sources of energy and production of rare and rare-earth metals.
