Refugees’ acceptance rate grew to 60% in Kazakhstan- UNHCR

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Last year the acceptance rate of refugees grew to 60% and was the highest in the Central Asian region, this has been announced by Mr. Saber Azam, UNHCR Regional Representative/Regional Coordinator for Central Asia.

"Cooperation with the Government of Kazakhstan and, in particular, with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was very fruitful in the past four years. Following the adoption of the national Law of Refugees, refugee status determination powers and authority were delegated to the Department of Migration Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Last year refugee persons acceptance rate rose to 60 %, being the highest in the Central Asian region", said S.Azam.

In Astana Mr Saber Azam has held a meeting with Interior Minister of Kazakhstan Kalmukhanbet Kassymov to mark the completion of his mission in the region.
