sipbekov Akay (1909-1983) - public figure, Doctor of History, Professor, Academician of the KazSSR Academy of Sciences. Born in Almaty region. His father died in the national liberation rebellion in Zhetysu in 1916. He started working early as a shepherd of rich Russians and Uighurs. In 1926-1932 he graduated from Almaty Agricultural College, worked as a teacher and later as college principal. In 1933-1934 he worked as chief of regional committee of the communist party of Kazakhstan in Almaty.  

In 1934-1937 he studied at Moscow East Laborers University. In the Great Civil War he served as commissar of Panfilov's division troops. In 1945 he was chief of department at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the KazSSR Sciences Academy; in 1956 he was appointed as director of this institute; later in 1968 - 1976 he was Vice-President of the KazSSR Academy of Sciences. Scores of scholars defended PhD theses under his guidance.

Akay Nussipbekov made more than a hundred of scientific publications and monographs. His scientific activity was devoted to construction and consolidation of Kazakh Soviet state, promotion of the labor class in Kazakhstan.
