ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Kazinform's Timeline is the one-stop shop where you can learn about historical events for the 8th of November. See what notable events happened throughout Kazakhstan's history on November 8.


On November 8, 2002, the Kazakh News Agency (KazTAG) was transformed into "National Company "Kazinform" JSC in accordance with the Government's Decree. The presentation of the new company was held in Astana on March 19, 2003.

On this day in 2004, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the first session of the Club of ambassadors of the SCO member states. In attendance at the session were the minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the ambassadors of the People's Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Participants discussed the issues of interaction of the SCO Secretariat, the Council of national coordinators and permanent representatives under the embassies accredited in Kazakhstan.

On November 8, 2006, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak took part in the flower-laying ceremony at the monument "Otan korgaushylary". In accordance with the tradition, Hosni Mubarak planted a tree in the Alley of Heads of State.

Talgat Temenov's film Moi greshniy angel (My sinful angel) starring French actor Gerard Depardieu was released on November 8, 2011. According to Temenov, Depardieu not only played a part in the film, but also let the crew film at his restaurant.

The first scientific-research center of automation "Siemens-Kazakh National Technical University" was opened in Almaty the same day. The center trains engineers and offers further training for specialists of local industrial enterprises. In its work it uses the latest solutions of Siemens company.

The first Kazakhstani Forum Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) kicked off in Almaty on November 8 in 2012. The objective of the forum was to discuss improvement of legal framework in the field of counter-corruption, fraud, terrorism and legitimization of income.

A commemorative plaque to Kazakhstani scientist Tasbulat Shayakhmetov was unveiled on the building of the Pavlodar State Pedagogic Institute on this day in 2012. Tasbulat Shayakhmetov was a professor, Candidate of Science (Physic and Mathematics) and one of the most prominent educators in Kazakhstan. He made a valuable contribution to the development of pedagogy, higher education and science in the country.

Soloist of the Astana Opera Theater Saltanat Akhmetova claimed the prestigious award Klassik Herbst in Guterloh' Forderpreis in the final of Neue Stimmen singing contest in Germany on November 8, 2013. The jury selected only 40 participants out of 1,500 applications that were submitted for the contest. Only nine opera singers advanced to the final, including Saltanat Akhmetova.

On November 8, 2016, President Nursultan Nazarbayev received the 2016 Culture of Peace Special Award of the Goi Peace Foundation for his contribution to promotion of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation in Tokyo, Japan. The awarding ceremony was held at the Akasaka State Guest House during Nazarbayev's official visit to Japan. Chairperson of the Goi Peace Foundation Masami Saionji and its President Hiroo Saionji presented the special edition of the annual Goi Peace Award to Nursultan Nazarbayev.

While in Tokyo, Nazarbayev also met with Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia and former Prime Minister of Japan Yasuo Fukuda. The Kazakh leader was awarded with the Honorary Doctorate Degree (Engineering) of the Tokai University.

Private screening of the Kazakh drama Oralman (Returnee) for reps of mass media was in Almaty the same day. The film tells the story of people who were forced to leave their motherland in 1930s and could return back home many years later.
