NATO considers Kazakhstan a key partner in Central Asia

BRUSSELS. March 12. KAZINFORM Head of Kazakhstan's Mission to the NATO, Ambassador Yerik Utembayev met NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai in Brussels to discuss the current status and prospects for developing relations between Kazakhstan and NATO, as well as the issues on the regional and international agenda.

The parties considered the implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) between Kazakhstan and NATO. Utembayev noted the preparation of a new cycle of IPAP, which has a number of innovations, in particular, cooperation in cybersecurity.

Appathurai praised Kazakhstan's cooperation with NATO, noting the important role played by Kazakhstan in Central Asia, as well as in matters of stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan. According to the NATO leadership, Kazakhstan is considered a key partner in Central Asia on regional security.

The Special Representative emphasized the good pace of advancement of joint agreements with Kazakhstan on a wide range of topical issues of global and regional security. He noted that the relationship between NATO and Kazakhstan continue to demonstrate a stable and dynamic development. It is primarily concerns cooperation in the format of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, activities under the third cycle of the Individual Partnership Action Plan and joint efforts on Afghanistan.
