EVENTS

The Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ankara, Turkey was published on May 17, 1992.

The same day President Nursultan Nazarbayev paid his first official visit to the U.S. during which he confirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to accede to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The first meeting of the Kazakh and U.S. presidents took place on May 19, 1992.

In 2007, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev received the Order of the Nile, the highest state honor of the Republic of Egypt for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations.

Given the growing level of bilateral ties, the Government of Malta made a decision to grant visa-free regime to holders of Kazakhstani diplomatic passports in 2010.

The National Museum of Kazakhstan welcomed the exhibition of personal belongings of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia Al Faisal: The Path of Justice and Courage in 2017. The exhibition showcased a collection of swords and other types of cold steel, King Faisal's awards, archive documents and photos.

Kazakhstani singer Dimash Kudaibergen attended a charitable dinner of the Global Gift Foundation in Paris in 2017. Kudaibergen was invited to the dinner by American actress, activist and businesswoman Eva Longoria.

NAMES


Senate Speaker Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was born 65 years ago. Native of Almaty city, Tokayev is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Throughout his professional career Tokayev held many posts, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1993-1994); Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1994-1999); Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1999); acting Prime Minister - Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1999-2002); Secretary of State - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2002-2003); Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2003-2007); Deputy, Speaker of the Senate, the upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament of the third convocation (2007-2011); Deputy UN Secretary-General- Director-General of United Nations Office at Geneva (2011-2013).
