YRKOZHA KHODZHIKOV (1880-1938) is a scientist-enlightener, public figure.

Born in Akmeshit town (modern Kyzylorda), he finished Kazakh-Russian school and Tashkent Teacher's Seminary. K. Khodzhikov worked as a school supervisor in Syrdarya province, chief of the Kazakh-Russian College and a teacher at schools of Turkestan, Perovsk and Andizhan.

In 1912 he wrote "ABC book" in Orenburg and "Historical poem of emperorship of the Romanovs" in the Kirgiz language together with Shadi Zhangiruly and Galiaskar Kassymov. In 1907 Russian Tsar decreed to stand Kazakh and other people of Turkestan region off the work in the State Duma. K. Khodzhikov participated in the events directed against this law. After the February Revolution of 1917 he organized and headed a Society on Protection of the Rights of Fergana Valley Kazakhs.

In 1922 he worked in Lands Directorate in Aulieata and was engaged in excavations and researches of ancient monuments, burial mounds of Zhetysu.

K. Khodzhikov is the author of scientific works on Orkhon script, mazars of Kozy Korpesh-Bayan Sulu, Kelinshektas and Aktas. He translated a number of historical and literary works from Arabic, Persian and Chagatai languages. He is also the author of a two-volume book "Data and materials on history of the Kazakhs" published in 1935-1936.

In 1938 he was arrested and shot to death as an "enemy of people". On December 23, 1957 K. Khodzhikov was rehabilitated
