KETEBAY KUMBEZ

ebay monument is an architectural and historical monument of XIX century which was built in 1898. It is located in Ulytau municipality of Karaganda region, at the 20 km to south-east from Malshybay village on the left bank of Karakengir River.

It enters the complex of Labak monument. Its author and history are unknown.

In 1975 it was studied by the expedition of the Ministry of Culture of the Kazakhs SSR headed by M. Mamanbayev , M. Nurkabayev and M. Sembin.

The monument is constructed from raw brick whereas inside and outside it is fronted with burnt brick. The entrance is oriented to South-West. The plan size on exterior perimeter is 6,55 х 6,35 m. The height of the portal part is 5.55 m. The cupola was destroyed.

The height of the basement is 80 cm. The entrance is covered with a dome, the archway of light niche of the entrance is ended with round three-four-sided medallion. The rest facades are decorated in the from of carpet bricking.

Ketebay Kumbez is one of the best samples of mausoleums of XIX century in Central Kazakhstan.

In 1982 it was enlisted into the historical and cultural monuments of national significance.
