ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan is a leader in Central Asia in terms of gender equality, head of "UN-Women" in Kazakhstan, representative of "UN Women" in Kazakhstan, director of the multi-branch of "UN Women" in Central Asia Elaine Conkievich told at the meeting with Secretary of State of Kazakhstan Gulshara Abdykalikova in Akorda.

"In order to improve the rating of Kazakhstan, the situation regarding the gap of the income of men and women should be addressed. Men still earn more than women. Besides, the percentage of women in the Parliament and local administrations is still too low, under 30%. Women should be involved in the political issues in Kazakhstan. The domestic violence issue must be addressed and prevented," E. Conkievich said.

According to her, the issue of gender equality should be explained all over the country in Kazakhstan. Nevertheless, Kazakhstan, in her opinion, being a part of the Central Asian region, is leading the way in terms of gender equality.

Regarding some reduction of the rating of Kazakhstan in promotion of the gender equality over the recent year, she noted that those indicators were also affected by the number of women obtaining education, which was not growing significantly lately, and their participation in management of big companies and some other indicators.
