Kazakhstan edges out Kuwait to play for ninth place

TIANJIN, China.  August 14. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan beat Kuwait 76-57 in the 9-12 classification of 25th FIBA Asia men's basketball championship here on Friday and will fight for ninth place against the winner between Japan and the United Arab Emirates, Kazinform cites Xinhuanet.

Kazakhstan, who was semifinalist at last edition of the championship, never trailed from the beginning of the match with Alexander Tyutyunik leading the team with 20 points and five rebounds. Dmitriy Gavrilov chipped in with 17 points while Anton Ponomarev added 15.

Kuwait's Mohammad Ashkanani shared Tyutyunik with the scoring honor with 20 points.

Kuwait will take on the losers of the game between Japan and UAE for the 11th place.
