Kazakhstan celebrates the Day of the First President of Kazakhstan
At its plenary session as of December 10, 2011 the Kazakh Senate adopted the law "On amendments to the law "On holidays in Kazakhstan". The Day of the First President was established to mark and recognize the distinguished merits of 1st President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to the country. On December 1, 1991 Nursultan Nazarbayev was re-elected as the President of the Kazakh SSR at the first nationwide elections receiving 98,7% of votes. This historic event gave occasion to choosing December 1 as the Day of the first President.
Since the first days of independence of Kazakhstan, President Nazarbayev's strategic vision and forward looking policy helped shape Kazakhstan's modern multiethnic society, making the diversity of the country one of its biggest strengths. Promotion of the multi-religious dialogue through President's initiative of hosting Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, is another testament to the commitment of Kazakhstan to strengthening human rights and universal freedoms around the world. Today's dynamic and successful development of Kazakhstan is associated with the name of the 1st President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The world community highly appreciates the country foreign policy, economic growth and political reforms, as well as high level of social stability and people's welfare gain under the guidance of Nursultan Nazarbayev. Various exhibitions were opened the countrywide and abroad presenting archival photographs of the President of Kazakhstan, his books, publications on the activities of the Kazakh leader, as well as videos about the work and life of the President. Among the major international initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan, which earned respect and appreciation of the international community, were rejection of the soviet nuclear legacy and leadership in the disarmament process, launch of the G-Global communication platform, etc. The world leaders express their confidence that under effective leadership of Nursultan Nazarbayev Kazakhstan will keep on going further to reach new heights. Thanks to the First President our country has turned into a dynamically developing independent state with an active position in the international arena in just two decades. Nursultan Nazarbayev has managed to define and implement effective strategic instruments for the development of our country within a very short time.
