Kazakhmys suspends activities of unprofitable enterprises

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - The difficult economic conditions related primarily to the sharp decline in the market value of copper forced "Kazakhmys Corporation" to announce the optimization of production processes, the press service of the company informs.

Kazakhmys will suspend activities of some unprofitable enterprises, the statement reads. According to the press service, about 2,000 employees will attend refresher courses and training. They will also get average wage. After the trainings it is planned to continue their employment on Boschekul and Aktogai projects. Appropriate arrangements have been made with the LLP "Kazminerals". Optimization measures have also affected administrative staff of the corporation. Some of the employees will move to part-time work schedule. Kazakhmys Corporation is a leading company in the production and processing of natural resources, the largest copper producer in Kazakhstan. Kazakhmys is the largest copper producer in Kazakhstan and one of the top worldwide with 16 operating mines, 8 concentrators and a copper smelter. The total number of employees of the corporation is about 40 thousand people.
