Kazakh President attends meeting devoted to 100th anniversary of Dinmukhamed Kunayev

ALMATY. January 12. KAZINFORM /Sara Mustafina/ Today in Almaty Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is attending a celebratory meeting dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Dinmukhamed Kunayev, prominent public figure of Kazakhstan, three times Hero of Socialist Labor.

The meeting is held at the Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. Known workers of culture and science, labor veterans, public and political figures are among the attendees. Many of them personally knew the former head of the republic, great scientist and organizer. They worked with him or started career with a blessing from Kunayev.

Dinmukhamed Kunayev was born on 12 January 1912 in Almaty. Graduated from the Institute of Non-Ferrous and Fine Metallurgy in Moscow in 1936. By 1939 he had become engineer-in-chief of the Pribalkhashatroi mine. Kunayev was deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR from 1942 to 1952. He served as first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan for more than 20 years in 1960-1962 and 1964-1986. Died on 22 August 1993.
