Kazakh Foreign Minister met with NATO Secretary General
As Foreign Minister Idrissov noted after the meeting, Kazakhstan has a very extensive and informative individual partnership program with NATO (Individual Partnership Action Plan). Partners in NATO acknowledge the substantial impact of the program.
"Our cooperation on security in Afghanistan, especially in the period after 2014, when massive withdrawal of coalition forces is expected in the country, is of particular significance. But there is a common understanding of the importance of continuing the political and other interaction of the region, in particular Kazakhstan, with coalition countries to ensure long-term security, stability and socio-economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan," Idrissov said.
The sides exchanged views on the political and military cooperation between Kazakhstan and NATO, development of inter-parliamentary relations, interaction between NATO and security structures in Eurasian space.
NATO Secretary General expressed his appreciation for Kazakhstan's support for the international coalition in Afghanistan, as well as its comprehensive assistance to Afghanistan, including the training of Afghan students in higher education institutions of Kazakhstan at the expense of the Kazakh side.
The Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan said that Kazakhstan and NATO have important agreements on transit, which is of great importance amid the withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan and the transformation of the routes to commercial arteries able to promote regional integration.
