ASTANA. April 11. KAZINFORM Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov received Latvian Foreign Ministry Secretary of State Andris Teikmanis on Wednesday in Astana.

The sides discussed the status and prospects of Kazakh-Latvian relations and cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

Kazykhanov expressed gratitude for the support of Kazakhstan's foreign policy initiatives, particularly during Kazakhstan's presidency of the OSCE in 2010, implementation of "Path to Europe" State Program. "Latvia is an important partner of Kazakhstan in the Baltic region," he said.

The Kazakh Minister noted the high level of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Latvia, however, pointed out a large potential in this area. In this regard, the Minister stressed that "our country has created favorable conditions for doing business." He told about the program of forced industrial-innovative development of Kazakhstan and the benefits of the Customs Union. The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation in transit transport sector, particularly in the context of the project Western China - Western Europe.
