January riots: 445 sentenced so far
NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM - 392 criminal cases in connection with the January riots have been taken to court, Yeldos Kilymzhanov, deputy chief of the Criminal Proceeding Service of the Prosecutor-General's Office, said, Kazinform correspondent reports.
«In these cases, 445 persons were sentenced. 46 accused received real prison sentences for serious crimes, including violence against authority figures and destruction of property by those who did not compensate the damage or had non-extinguished previous convictions,» said Kilymzhanov during a briefing.
According to him, 514 accused are under arrest.
«These individuals took an active part in the riots, set buildings on fire, stole arms, were involved in armed attacks on government facilities and security forces. Taking into account the personality, health condition, and other materials, the charges to 284 inprisoned persons were replaced by a recognizance not to leave, bails, home arrests, and personal recognizance,» he said.
He added that the bulk of the work is ongoing on mass riots and terrorist acts. Over one thousand people are recognized as suspects.
Damage worth KZT 343 mln paid to those affected by January events
NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM Deputy head of the investigations department of the Kazakh Interior Ministry Mukhtar Kozhayev told a briefing that 1,731 persons were recognized as affected by the January riots, Kazinform reports.
Damage worth KZT 343 mln was paid so far to those affected by the January events. 594 cases concerning accused persons were taken to the court. 398 out of 500 persons were sentenced to restraint. 92 were sentenced to imprisonment for serious and very serious crimes.
As earlier reported, 474 criminal cases were forwarded to the court, 717 persons were convicted.
«More than 1,500 business facilities were damaged after riots causing billions in property damage,» he went on. Besides, 71 state buildings, some 700 cars, including ambulances, police and firefighting service vehicles were vandalized and damaged.

Speaking at a briefing, Nurlybek Sabitov, the deputy chief of the Special Prosecutors Service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan said that as a result of the January events, up to five thousand pre-trial investigations have been registered.
According to information, 474 criminal proceedings in which 717 persons have been convicted have been sent to court.
He went on to say that 92 accused have received real prison sentences following the riots.
«93 accused have been given real sentences for serious crimes related to theft and illegal possession of weapons and those who did not compensate for the damage or had non-extinguished previous convictions,» said Sabitov.
Mukhtar Kozhayev, the deputy chief of the investigation department of the Kazakh Interior Ministry, added that the police have initiated a total of 4,642 criminal cases. Of these, 2.5 thousand on charges of theft, 708 on theft and possession of weapons, 418 on hooliganism, 199 on destruction of property, and 25 on looting and robberies.
