The first issue of Oral newspaper in the Tatar language saw the light in Orenburg on January 4, 1907. The ‘open letter' to the Russian government raising the problem of the resettlement of Kazakhs from their lands and urging the Second State Duma to solve the land problem was published in the newspaper.

On this day in 1995, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev attended the unveiling ceremony of the 582 km section of the Trans-Asian Railway.

Kazakhstan became member of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, one of the functional commissions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on January 4, 2000. The Commission was established by the ECOSOC in 1946 and is the central drug policy-making body within the United Nations system.

On this day in 2012, Belarus wrapped up its chairmanship in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and passed the baton of chairmanship to Kazakhstan. As the CSTO Chairman, Kazakhstan prioritized protection of information space of CSTO Member States, development of collective rapid reaction forces, collective protection of Central Asian airspace, crafting of CSTO counterdrugs strategy and more.

A monument to well-known Kazakh wrestler Kazhimukan Munaitpassov was installed in Kazhimukan village in Akmola region on January 4, 2015.

Golden medalist of the XV Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Zulfiya Gabidullina received a special present - a new house on this day in 2017. The 4-room house was built not far from the Taraz Arena Sports Complex where Zulfiya usually trains.

On January 4, 2017, Kazakhstan took part in the session of the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for the first time in history. The Program of the Council's work for the month ahead was reviewed and approved at the session. Kazakhstan's delegation was headed by charge d'affaires Barlybai Sadykov.
