January 14. Today's Birthdays One of the most prominent and internationally known Kazakhstani artists Abilkhan Kasteyev was born on this day 115 years ago. He was one of the founders of fine arts in Kazakhstan, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR and laureate of the Ualikhanov's Prize.

Born in Almaty region, Kasteyev was a student of Almaty-based artist Nikolay Khludov and Moscow-based Iliya Brodsky. Kasteyev showcased his works for the first time back in 1931.
