ASTANA. June 30. KAZINFORM In his address to the 38th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held on the theme of "Peace, Cooperation and Development", Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) highlighted that any plan to build a strong, cohesive, and stable society will be doomed to failure in the absence of a good education system, scientific and technological development and a solid knowledge base.

He also emphasized that no true political, economic or administrative reform can stand unless it is based on efficient action in these areas, the press service of the ISESCO reports.

Furthermore, he underlined that overcoming obstacles to comprehensive sustainable development in the Islamic world should start from a general overhaul of the education system. "Reform needs strong determination, a clear political vision and an ability to cope with contingencies, and this necessarily requires investment in human capital, hence in the future", he noted.

He also said: "As parts of the Islamic world are witnessing tumultuous yet incoherent youth reform movements, an enforcement of the respective resolutions of the Islamic Summit, the Council of Foreign Ministers and the specialized Islamic conferences will, at any rate, contribute to reform and social development and prevent chaos and strife."

Likewise, he emphasized that against this backdrop, and in pursuit of the goals set out in the Ten-Year Programme of Action, it is crucially important to implement the adopted strategies and action plans, particularly those focused on ISESCO's fields of competence. "Only then could we develop Muslim communities and meet the legitimate reform ambitions which are actually endorsed by the Third Extraordinary Islamic Summit", he explained.

Similarly, he highlighted that the battle for comprehensive sustainable development has to be fought in the fields of education, science, culture and communication, which together constitute ISESCO's realm of competence.

Equally, he underlined that the journey to sustainable development starts from the modernization of education systems, promotion of science, technology and innovation, and revamp of cultural policies to turn them into effective agents of change. "It equally hinges on the promotion and protection of childhood and preservation of the environment for the benefit of future generations", he added.

In addition, he launched an appeal to all Member States to honor their obligations within the framework of the relevant strategies, plans and commitments adopted by the Islamic Summit. "This could be fulfilled only through cooperation and coordination in such a way as to rise to future challenges, develop Muslim societies, immunize the rising and future generations against the dangers of the so called "creative chaos", which only dents the spiritual and intellectual being of individuals and undermines social peace", he emphasized.

By way of conclusion, Dr Altwaijri underlined that Inter-Muslim solidarity in such vital areas is therefore a prerequisite for Muslims' unity, rapprochement, and strength.
