Iranian speaker urges expansion of cooperation with Kazakhstan

TEHRAN. October 10. KAZINFORM Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called for the further expansion of friendly ties and cooperation with Kazakhstan in all the various grounds.

Speaking in a meeting with Kazakhstan's visiting Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov here in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani underlined Tehran's positive view about the development of friendly ties and cooperation with Kazakhstan in all the different fields, and said all opportunities should be exploited to consolidate Tehran-Astana relations.

According to FNA, he also noted the two countries' important positions in the region and the Muslim world, and asked for increased efforts by Tehran and Astana officials to launch joint and multilateral cooperation in campaign against terrorism and drug-trafficking in the region.

Kazykhanov, for his part, underlined his country's eagerness to further bolster all-out relations with Iran, and stressed that Astana has no limit for expanding ties with Tehran.

He also pointed to the two countries' common views over many world and regional issues, and reiterated, "Problems of the region cannot be solved by anyone except for the regional countries."

The Kazakh foreign minister also said his country's regional policy is centered on the strengthening of stability and tranquility along with economic development in the region, "and cooperation with Iran is of paramount importance in the same regard".

He underlined Iran's significant role and importance in the region, and said, "Given the two countries' shared views about many regional issues, the Iranian and Kazakh leaders are necessitated to have continued and close consultations and exchanges of views."

Kazykhanov also stressed that implementation of Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railroad construction project and consolidation of trilateral economic cooperation (among these three states) are much important to his country.

Kazykhanov arrived here in Tehran yesterday and has held meetings with senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
