ALMATY. KAZINFORM - Ice palace with a capacity of 12,000 will be built in the city of Almaty, promised mayor Akhmetzhan Yessimov.

He announced the news at the Thursday session chaired by President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazinform has learnt from Sports.kz. "The city is gearing up for the 2017 Universiade. The construction of the ice palace that can accommodate 12,000 spectators will commence this year. 3,000-seat ice arena and the athletes' village are to be constructed as well. All facilities should be completed by August 2016," mayor Yessimov noted. As reported earlier, Almaty submitted a bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympiad. The city stands a fair chance of success thanks to Kazakhstan's stability and robust economic growth.
