Halyk Kaharmany Nurgissa Tlendiyev - a born composer

ANA. July 9. KAZINFORM. /Serik Sabekov/ The gift of this prominent composer deserves the highest estimation. His invaluable musical works gladden our hearts. They say, people like Nurgissa are born talents. He managed to make ancient Kazakh folk instruments sound anew. He connected the centuries-old antiquity and modern times. His name is Nurgissa Tlendiyev - a famous musician, Halyk Kaharmany, People's Artist of the USSR.

The well-known composer, conductor and dombra player N. Tlendiyev is an author of such great pieces as "Altyn Taular", "Dostyk Zholymen" and "Ata Tolgau". He composed music for 100 plays and films. His whole repertoire counts about 500 pieces of music.

His melodies are popular among people of all ages. But his main contribution is that he made ancient musical instruments sound in a new way. "Otyrar Sazy" folk orchestra, which was founded and headed by maestro Tlendiyev, used such antique instruments as zhetygen, sherter, shankobyz, tuyaktas and others. Later many Kazakh musical collectives followed his example. Concerts of "Otyrar Sazy" were always sold out for every performance both in Kazakhstan and abroad. It promoted popularization of the Kazakh folk music.

One of the most popular Kazakh instruments - dombra - brought N. Tlendiyev into the world of art. Dombra was his best friend at work that always helped him in hour of need.

Maestro of the Kazakh music Akhmet Zhubanov contributed a lot to the development of N. Tlendiyev's musical talent. It was Zhubanov who traveled around auls in search for gifted children. In Shelek aul he was recommended to listen to the play of Nurgissa. A.Zhubanov noticed his unique talents at once. The Kazakh maestro recommended the boy to commit himself to music and presented him dombra.

N. Tlendiyev was a talented composer, conductor and good family man and farther as well.

Colleagues of the musician tell that he was strict and exacting director, but always remained a good person. He always tried to help his collective and was never arrogant. Being a composer, excellently knowing the music of his time, N. Tlendiyev was always inspired by the art of improvisation.

These are some of the awards and titles of the maestro: People's Artist of the USSR, holder of the State Prize of Kazakhstan. By the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan, Nurgissa Tlendiyev was awarded "Halyk Kaharmany" title in 1998.
