EVENTS

1917 – The Dogal battle – one of the key battles in the national liberation movement – takes place in the Turgai steppe.

1992 – The Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan decides to name the Kazakh State Theater for Children and Young Youth after writer Gabit Musrepov.

1992 – The State Concern Kazakhcinema is set up.

2011 –The final report summarizing Kazakhstan’s presidency of the OSCE from the viewpoint of US scholars is published.

2012 – The Kazakh capital hosts the Special Olympics bringing together over 320 athletes with disabilities from Kazakhstan, Austria, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

2014 – The CIS Antiparliamentary Assembly reveals the list of key attractions of the CIS countries as part of the Year of Tourism. The list included Nur-Sultan’s Round Square alongside Azerbaijan’s Baku Boulevard, Armenia’s Khor Virap Monastery, and others.

2016 – BBC-2 Top Gear hosts Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans choose Kazakhstan to make an episode of the program.

2017 – Almaty lands at 15th spot of the Innovation Cities Index 2016-2017 in the emerging markets region.

2020 – Kazakhstan’s top seed 20-year-old Elena Rybakina sets the country’s new record in the WTA Rankings.
