Ex-Karaganda governor detained

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM Ex-governor of Karaganda city Meiram Smagulov has been detained on suspicion of abuse of power and taken to the detention centre, our correspondent reports.

Smagulov was appointed as the governor in October 2012. This June he resigned of his own free will. The investigators believe that Smagulov being at that time the governor of Karaganda carried our renovations at his home at the expense of the Yutex Company that built housing under the Affordable Housing Program. As initially estimated the repair works cost above KZT 5 mln.
