EUNIC, Almaty, celebrated its launch in style

ALMATY. May 20. KAZINFORM EUNIC Almaty celebrated its launch on 11 May 2011 with a concert for invited guests at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatoire.

The event was opened by EU Ambassador Jousten and the first President elect of EUNIC, Lena Milosevic. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Jousten noted the growing importance of cultural relations in an increasingly globalised world and wished EUNIC every success. Lena Milosevic remarked 'We have established EUNIC because we are sure that working together, we can do more projects, and do bigger projects, in the sphere of culture, to further co-operation between Kazakhstan and the countries of the European Union'.

The concert, of classical European music, performed by the talented young musicians of the Conservatoire, was enhanced by the presence of the Hungarian pianist György Oravecz who performed four pieces by Ferenc Liszt in recognition of Liszt's 200th anniversary, the press service of the British Council reports.

The invited guests stayed on after the concert for a reception, to network and enjoy the celebratory atmosphere.

Earlier in the day EUNIC, Almaty, organised a well attended press conference in association with the Kazakhstan Press Club. The speakers at the press conference were Lena Milosevic , President EUNIC, Norbert Jousten, Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan, Bruno Antonio Pasquino, Ambassador of Italy to Kazakhstan, John Thurlow, Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Astana, Szilard Teleki, Consul General of Hungary in Almaty, Guillaume Narjollet, Consul General of France in Almaty, Gerold Amelung, Consul General of Germany in Almaty.
