Egypt to host OIC summit in ''12 - Min

CAIRO. July 3. KAZINFORM Minister of Solidarity and Social Justice Dr. Jouda Abdulkhaleq asserted here Friday that Egypt will host the upcoming summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), formerly known as the Organization of Islamic Conference, due in 2012.


According to KUNA, Abdulkhaleq said, in statements to the press, upon his return from Kazakhstan after leading the Egyptian delegation to the meetings of OIC foreign ministers that were held there, that the Egyptian delegation asserted hosting the next summit in 2012, noting that it was due last March in Cairo, but conditions precluded this, and so Egypt is ready to host the summit in the first quarter of next year.

He also said that the meetings of OIC in Kazakhstan were constructive and intensive with the delegations of 57 countries taking part in them, while name of the pan-Islamic body have been modified from the Organization of Islamic Conference to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation along with changing the OIC slogan by unanimity of views.
Further, he said that main themes have been discussed including the Palestine membership at the UN, and the declaration of the Palestinian state, while a proposal has been made for setting up a human rights committee of OIC, besides discussing a report by OIC Secretary General on various concerned issues.

Finally, he said that he held meetings with a lot of top officials in Kazakhstan regarding wheat and food security, and to mull with the topic of importing wheat, expressing his belief that such visit will bring positive results.
