On December 21, 1868, Akmola oblast was formed as a part of the Steppe Governorate-General with its center in the city of Omsk. It included 5 districts - Akmola, Omsk, Petropavlovsk, Kokshetau, and Sarysu. In the first years under the Soviet rule, Akmola oblast was renamed into Akmola province.

On this day in 1958, the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted new foundations of criminal legislation, which for the first time during the Soviet era dropped the concept of Enemy of the people. The age of criminal responsibility was raised from 14 to 16 years. The maximum term of imprisonment was reduced from 25 to 15 years. Trials became open and the presence of accused - compulsory.

The Alma-Ata Declaration defining the goals and principles of the CIS was signed on December 21, 1991. It established that the interaction of the participants of the organization "should be carried out on the principle of equality through coordinating institutions, formed on a parity basis and acting in the manner determined by agreements between the members of the Commonwealth, which is neither a state nor a supranational entity".

On December 21, 1993, the President's Decree approved the descriptions of the Golden Star of the Halyk Kаkһаrmany title, as well as orders, medals, and other state awards.

The Halyk Kаhаrmany (People's Hero) title and the Altyn Kyran (Golden Eagle) Order are the highest state awards in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On this day in 1995, in connection with the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Israel, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in the city of Tel Aviv.

In 2005, a museum bearing the name of the legendary batyr, Kanzhygaly Bogenbay was opened in the city of Yereimetau, Akmola region.

Kanzhygaly Bogenbay became famous as a talented military commander during the years of the struggle against the Dzungarian invaders in the first half of the 18th century.

On this day in 2009, winners of the competition in the development of the state language Til zhanashyry-2009. The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev was awarded the Honorary Memorial Sign No. 1 by the jury.
