CSTO, UN agencies to exchange information on situation in Afghanistan

MOSCOW. January 23. KAZINFORMThe Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the UN agencies will establish a regular exchange of information about the situation in and around Afghanistan and the impact of this factor on the situation in Central Asia. The agreement was reached by CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha and Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Jan Kubis. The meeting took place in Moscow on 22 January, BelTA learned from CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zaynetdinov.

The two parties exchanged views on the state and prospects for the development of the situation in Afghanistan which has the tendency towards the normalization. Yet, collective efforts are still needed to consolidate this trend. In this regard, the parties noted the importance of the upcoming presidential election and the formation of the legitimate government in Afghanistan. It was also noted that the security situation in Afghanistan has an impact on the security of the states of Central Asia, BelTA reports.
