CSTO Permanent Council considers Belarus-proposed UN statement

MINSK. June 24. KAZINFORM June 23rd session of the CSTO Permanent Council considered draft statement of the CSTO member states on the international arms trade treaty at a session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2012 UN Conference. The document was proposed by the Belarusian side, BelTA learnt from spokesman for the CSTO Secretariat Vladimir Zaynetdinov.

Today's session of the CSTO Permanent Council has coordinated the draft plan of consultations between the CSTO member states on foreign policy, security, and defense for H2 2011 and H1 2012. The session was chaired by the plenipotentiary representative of Belarus at the CSTO. Secretary General of the organization, Nikolai Bordyuzha, also attended the meeting.

According to BelTA, apart from that, deputy director of the Department for Security and Disarmament Affairs of the Russian Foreign Ministry V. Leontyev informed the participants about the dialogue between the Russia, the United States and NATO on Anti Ballistic Missile Treaty. V. Leontyev said that ABMT activities should be transparent and should not undermine the strategic stability. Russia is going to act openly in this field and coordinate its stance with the CSTO member states. Russia also expects their support in this issue.
