ASTANA. April 8. KAZINFORM - The regional conference on renewable energy development in the countries of Central Asia and CIS is organized by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, Ministry of Environment, Kazakhstan Electricity Association (KEA) and UNDP Kazakhstan will take place on 12-13 May, 2011in Astana.

The aim is to share with international community with the achieved results, gained experience and lessons learnt by theUNDP/GEF Project "Kazakhstan - Wind Power Market Development Initiative". This project goal was to provide support to Kazakhstan in the startup of large-scale use of wind power to reduce GHGs emissions in the long term.

The conference participants will have an opportunity to share views and experience in development of renewable energy in Central Asia, as well as to develop recommendations on policies and cooperation in the field of renewables, the press service of the UNDP in Kazakhstan reports.

Conference sessions:

Key results and experience of UNDP / GEF project on the development of wind power market in Kazakhstan: development of legal framework and state regulation of renewable energy in Kazakhstan, development of local capacity while implementing wind parks projects, support in developing first projects, results achieved, experience and lessons learnt during the project implementation

Experience in the development of renewable energy in the countries of Central Asia and CIS:

International experience and policies. Recommendations for policies and cooperation in the sphere or renewable energy development.

Development of RE: Overview and exchange views on the development of renewable energy in the CA and CIS.
