CIS foreign ministers approve draft cultural program for 2011-2015

MINSK. April 8. KAZINFORM Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov attended a session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Kyiv on 8April, BelTA learnt from the press service of Belarus' Foreign Ministry.

According to BelTA, the foreign ministers shared their views on a wide range of pressing international and regional issues and considered various areas of cooperation within the CIS. The ministers also approved the draft declarations of the CIS presidents on the occasion of the CIS 20th anniversary and 70th anniversary of the WW II beginning.

Cooperation in culture, arts, and youth policy were also high on the session's agenda. The ministers approved draft project of the major cultural events until 2015 as well as concepts of cultural and arts education.

The CIS foreign ministers also considered draft agreements on single registration system for non-CIS citizens, on joint air defense on reconsideration of data classified as top secret in Soviet times.

The ministers supported Tajikistan's proposal on the creation of a working group to draft an analytical report on the CIS operation over the past 20 years. The report will summarize the results of cooperation and set long-term objectives.

The foreign ministers of the CIS nations met with President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

Sergei Martynov also held working meeting with his counterparts.
