CIS Council of Foreign Ministers to meet in Kyiv on 8 April

KYIV. April 7. KAZINFORM A regular session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will take place in Kyiv on 8 April, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

According to BelTA, the agenda of the meeting comprises 13 issues concerning the preparation for the 20th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), interstate cooperation in the humanitarian area, science and culture, security issues and other cooperation areas within the CIS.

The previous sessions of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers and the CIS Council of Heads of State were held in Moscow in December 2010. They considered 18 draft documents aimed at further development and strengthening of the interstate cooperation in the economic, humanitarian and security areas.

In 2011 Ukraine is set to host the 49th session of the CIS Economic Council (in Crimea in April). The concept of the annual business forum of the Commonwealth, Yalta Business Meetings, has been put forward by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

The Commonwealth of Independent States consists of Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
