senbay Kenzhebayev (1904-1987) is a scientist, well-known turcologist, theorist of literature, critic, translator, doctor of philological sciences, professor.

He was born in Bogen village of Ordabassy municipality in South-Kazakhstan Oblast.

He graduated from I. Stalin Communist University of East Labors, A. Gorky Literary Institute, Kazakh State University (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University).

B. Kenzhebayev worked in several newspapers as 'Zhas Kairat', 'Leninshil Zhas' ('Zhas Alash'), 'Kenes Tuy', 'Ontustik Kazakhstan', 'Sotsialistyk Kazakhstan' ('Yegemen Kazakhstan') as an editor, head of department, translator in the USSR Supreme Soviet Administration.

In 1941-1944 he worked as an editor-in-chief of the Kazakh United State Publishing House. Since 1961 he was a senior teacher, dean of the philology faculty, head of the department for the Kazakh literature of the Kazakh State University (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University). In 1975-1987 he was a professor, adviser-professor to the Kazakh State University.

He proved that the origins of the Kazakh literature can be found in Old Turkic literature, in Orkhon-Turkic scripts. The scientist developed a whole conception. Archival investigations and expeditions of his pupil Mukhtar Magauin in the field of poetry of mediaeval zhyrau advance the history of the Kazakh literature into the past on five centuries.  

B. Kenzhebayev was the researcher of the Kazakh literature and print, life and creativity of Abay Kunanbayev, S. Toraigyrov, Zh. Zhabayev, M. Seralin, M. Auezov and S. Sharipov.

He published collection of the Kazakh satiric folklore 'Tymli' (in 1943 and in 1981), 'Konil Ashar' (1971). He was the author of 'Asau Zhurek' stories (1928). He translated the works of Russian and foreign writers and poets into Kazakh language.

B. Kenzhebayev was awarded with Lenin Order and several medals.
