Barlybai Tauasaruly (1690-1770) was a famous batyr, leader and prominent public figure, from Baganaly Naiman stem of Zhaugashty. He was born and lived approximately in 1690-1770 in Ulytau region of the Central Kazakhstan.

He studied in Karnak madrasah under Turkestan, Urgench madrasah. He knew Arabian, Persian and Old Turkic languages. Being the leader of Shomekey stem of Small Zhuz he headed troops which gave battle to Russian, Kalmak and Turk troops as well as the troops of Kokand and Khiva Khanates. His father Tauasar was a well-known batyr and mother Gulsim was the little sister of Karasakal batyr.

There are a lot of legends telling about his feats. Barlybai Batyr participated in the national liberation struggle of XVIII century during which he was recognized by three zhuzes as the hero of his nation.

There are several written sources informing that Barlybai was also an ambassador and khan. According to the old traditions he was raised on white felt and was proclaimed khan. The given event is proved in the book of A. Levshin which was published in 1832 in St. Petersburg.

It is known that Baganaly Barlybai died at the age of 80. This event took place approximately in 1770.
