ANA.  August 25. KAZINFORM  /Muratbek Makulbekov/ The name of Baktyoraz Beisekbayev is well-known among the Kazakh people today. Kazakhstan is proud of its brave son. His feat accomplished in the years of the Great Patriotic War serves as an example of patriotism, love to the Motherland and to the nation for all future generations, because he demonstrated true bravery and courage.

The history of his feat is not a legend. He demonstrated his fearlessness in hard-fought fields, in life-and-death battles.  Unfortunately, as a result of chauvinist soviet policy we have little information of the life of such heroes as Baktyoraz. We cannot appraise his feat and merits. So, why is B. Beisekbayev's name is still unknown?

It is become clear while studying the last historical data of his life.

This is how it happened. On June 26, 1941 all aircrafts of the 207th regiment of the 42nd long-range bombers' division, escaped in the first days of the war, got off the ground. They were entrusted with a task to bomb German tank columns located near Radoshkovichi village, in the 40km to the west from Minsk. The bombers were divided into two groups headed by the aircrafts flown by Captains Alexander Maslov and Nikolai Gastello. The first group was headed by A. Maslov. After the attack on German tanks two lead-aircrafts were engulfed with flame. Gastello's aircraft fell down not far from the German tanks. Maslov, who had realized omnipresence of his death, directed his aircraft to the German tanks. The other members of the crew who saw this incident mistakenly considered that was Gastello's aircraft, not Maslov's one. Thus, Gastello won glory as a hero. In several years, on May 12, 1951 a military museum of Byelorussia proposed to remove remains of Gastello and his crew to the central cemetery. The museum authorities explained this with their intention to erect a monument to the pilots died in the war.

However, they found remains of Maslov in the grave excavated with the participation of school students, militaries and representatives of intelligentsia. There were also personals belonging to Maslov and his crew - Lieutenant Balashov (from Kolomen municipality of Moscow oblast) and Junior Sergeant Baktyoraz Beisekbayev (from Ili municipality of Almaty oblast).

An official letter was sent to the authorized bodies, but the decrees of the Supreme Council were not abolished at that time. Therefore the Central Committee and Defense Minister let the theme drop although they knew the truth. 55 years later only all members of Maslov's crew were awarded the title of the Heroes of Russia.

It is worth noticing the works written by the Majilis Deputy, popular writer Argynbay Bekbosynov and ex-Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation Tair Mansurov who brought this story to the Kazakh President's knowledge. They wrote articles about the Kazakh batyr and made his feat familiar to the public. Later the Secretariat of the People's Assembly of Kazakhstan and the Council of the Veterans of Kazakhstan made a proposal on giving the title of Halyk Kaharmany to B. Beisekbayev. Soon the title was awarded to the hero by the Presidential Decree.

Is should be noted that Atamura corporation organized a special expedition and provided funds for determining the hero's birthplace and search for his relatives. Due to the efforts of its ex-President Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed and a correspondent of Yegemen Kazakhstan newspaper Meirambek Tolepbergen people could get to know B. Beiskebayev's glory. In fact, he was born in Zhideli village of Balkhash municipality, Almaty oblast. His relatives are living there today. Under the auspices of akim of Balkhash municipality there was erected a monument to Baktyoraz in Bakanas.
