Australian Open 2014: Sloane Stephens upsets Shvedova of Kazakhstan, seals first round win

ASTANA. January 14. KAZINFORM Kazakhstani Yaroslava Shvedova succumbed to the 13th seed Sloane Stephens during the Round 1 match at the 2014 Australian Open in Melbourne Tuesday, Kazinform refers to Vesti.kz.

The 26-year-old Kazakhstani athlete lost in two straight sets 6:7, 3:6 to her American opponent. This was the first time the world №82 vied against the 20-year-old Stephens.

Now all eyes are on Kazakhstani Zarina Diyas and Galina Voskoboeva who are facing Marina Erakovic of New Zealand and Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in the second round respectively.
