ASTANA. February 6. KAZINFORM. Next week, Astana will host a meeting of the Caspian littoral states to impose a moratorium on commercial sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry said on Friday.

Astana will host a meeting with the participation of the Caspian littoral states to discuss a moratorium on commercial sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea," the ministry said.

According to Trend, the issue of the preservation and restoration of sturgeon species is transboundary and concerns all of the littoral states - Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

"In this regard, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry has developed a draft of a five-sided agreement on a moratorium on sturgeon fishing for commercial purposes," the ministry said.

At the Third Summit of the Heads of the Caspian Littoral States on Nov. 18 in Baku, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev voiced an initiative to impose a moratorium on sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea for five years.
