Almaty failed terrorist attack leader’s extradition from Spain under resolution – Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office

ASTANA. April 24. KAZINFORM - The issue of extraditing the leader of failed terrorist attack in Almaty in March 2012 is being resolved. This was announced by Johann Merkel, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the plenary session of the Majilis.

According to the Committee on Legal Statistics, 2 465 people are wanted. Among which 2285 are wanted intergovernmentaly (CIS) and 180 people are in the international wanted list.

"With the help of Interpol 50 persons’ location has been learned. Mr. Pavlov, who along with the head of BTA Bank made thefts of extremely large amounts and, in addition, a suspect in organization of the terrorist act in Almaty at the entertainment center, has been detained in Spain. The issue of his extradition is under discussion at present time", said I.Merkel.

As previously reported, on March 24, 2012 the National Security Committee prevented at the stage of preparation the terrorist attacks in the city of Almaty. In the organization of the attacksthe suspect was one of Mukhtar Ablyazov’s attendants Alexander Pavlov, born in 1975, and beginning from 2009 had been hiding abroad from the law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan.

The terrorists planned bomb explosions in several places of Almaty city.

At the session of the Majilis there were approved the draft laws "On ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Spain on extradition treaty" and "On Ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Spain on transfer of sentenced persons."
