KAZINFORM Dead Saiga antelopes in West Kazakhstan oblast are burnt, the press office of the Ministry of Emergencies reports. "Currently the experts of the region together with the members of the veterinary service and epidemiological surveillance make preparations for destruction of the dead animals through incineration. Besides, quarantine measures are to be launched in Borsinsky and Zhaksybaysky rural areas", the press service says. As earlier reported, on May 20 the Ministry of Emergencies received the information of mass death of animals in Zhanibek municipality where the biggest herds of Ural Saiga population are concentrated. While inspecting the forestry and hunting areas around 200 dead female Saiga antelopes were found. A Commission on investigation of the case was established. According to the regional department of veterinary laboratory, the animals were hit by pasteurellosis, the infection that causes numerous pathological diseases in wild and domestic animals. In accordance with the latest data, the number of dead rare animals reached 11, 900. Comments (0)
