'Western Europe-Western China' highway is a unique project - First Vice PM Shukeyev
ZHAMBYL REGION. May 14. KAZINFORM /Galina Skripnik/ "Transcontinental highway "Western Europe - Western China" is a unique project", First Voce Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Umirzak Shukeyev has said at a briefing held in the course of his working trip around Zhambyl region.

He noted that the project was constantly monitored by the Head of the State.

According to him, the total length of the highway is more than eight thousand kilometers; over two thousand of them run through the territory of Kazakhstan. The construction is scheduled in the five regions of Kazakhstan. To date the works are underway in three regions: Zhambyl, Kyzylorda and Aktobe. South Kazakhstan and Almaty regions will start construction in July. 12,000 workers and 3,000 units of equipment have been mobilized. By September the construction will unfold in full force and will involve 50,000 workers and 10,000 units of equipment.

"This will be a grand building", Shukeyev noted. The construction of the 3400 km BAM (Baikal-Amur Mainline) took 20 years and involved 150,000 workers. We have to build "Western Europe - Western China" corridor for 3 years", he resumed.
