ASTANA.  March 16. KAZINFORM India's  Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Ashok Sajjanhar, last Thursday, inaugurated an exhibition  of Indian paintings called "Kalpana" comprising works of 14 of some of the most renowned Indian artistes at a glittering ceremony in Shymkent, the capital of South Kazakhstan.

The exhibition was held at the newly constructed prestigious Art Gallery.

Aidar Niyazov, Director of the Department of Culture of South Kazakhstan and Professor Walikhan Bishimbayev, Rector of South Kazakhstan University, were also present on the occasion.

Ambassador Sajjanhar said the exhibition had been brought to Shymkent after it was held successfully in Astana for three weeks because of the strong and dynamic relations that India has always enjoyed with this region of Central Asia.

The function was attended by a large number of art lovers of South Kazakhstan, students, intellectuals, academics, professionals, media personnel and admirers of Indian culture.

The exhibition consists of 29 digitally-produced prints of well-known works of eminent Indian artistes representing human figure forms created over a span of more than a century.

Starting with Jamini Roy, the exhibition also includes the works of Amrita Shergil, M.F. Husain, F.N. Souza and Krishen Khanna as well as some of the more contemporary and modern artistes like Anjolie Ela Menon, Manjit Bawa, and Arpana Caur.
